The Arnhem-based initiative unites designers and retailers with the shared ambition of creating a more sustainable fashion industry. State of Fashion said in a press release that Oskar Metsavaht and Vin are regarded as leading examples of a new movement of designers that envision a more sustainable future in the fashion industry.

State of Fashion 2018 will kick off with the international Fashion Colloquium, a two-day conference, which is organized in collaboration with ArtEZ Institute of Arts, Arnhem. The Fashion Colloquium is an initiative by design academies IFM Paris; Parsons New York; LCF London; and Domus Milan. Metsavaht will also be one of the keynote speakers during the event that welcomes designers, fashion companies, scientists, NGOs, policy makers, students and the public. This year’s theme is ‘searching for the new luxury’.

In addition to the conference, State of Fashion will also host an exhibition. Vin and Omi will also present their ‘war on plastics’ at the State of Fashion exhibition. In April, it was announced that Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood will also participate in the exposition. The show will be curated by José Teunissen, Dean at the School of Design & Technology at the London College of Fashion, UAL. Other exhibitors include Vetements, G-Star Raw, H&M, Zegna, Bruno Pieters, Osklen and Iris van Herpen.

The debut edition of State of Fashion 2018 will run from 1 June – 22 July 2018 at De Melkfabriek in Arnhem.
